OVERVIEW
For players League Age 5–7, Single A uses a pitching machine. Regardless of the number of players, no one will sit out a defensive inning. Each inning ends when either three outs are made or every player in the lineup has batted. There are no strikeouts or walks, but each batter is limited to five pitches from the machine per at-bat. As in T-Ball, scores are not kept. The standard 60-foot base distance is used.
*Note: 5-year-olds may play in Single A if they completed a spring season at VLL and turn 5 before March 3, 2025.

Q: When do Spring games start?
A: We aim for the first games to be on the first weekend and following week in March, with the season ending around mid-May.
Q: Can I make a “buddy” or coach request?
A: Yes! Single A is the last division where you can request specific teammates or coaches. You can make these requests by going to your account profile, clicking the edit icon next to your child's name, and entering the request. We try to accommodate as many requests as possible. However, once teams are assembled, we cannot guarantee changes.
Q: What is a typical week for Single A?
A: Single A usually includes:
One 60 to 75-minute field practice
One 60-minute batting practice (cage availability may vary)
Practices typically start around 4pm, though this time may vary. There will be one 60–75 minute game each Saturday, with the occasional Friday evening game. Practice days are assigned and generally remain consistent throughout the season.
Q: What types of bats are allowed?
A: All bats must be USA Baseball certified, indicated by the USA Baseball logo. Anything else is illegal for Little League play. If you're purchasing a bat for a new player, spending more than $30 isn’t necessary. Sporting goods store staff can assist in selecting the right bat.
Q: Are scores and standings kept?
A: No, scores and standings are not kept in Single A.
Q: Who are the managers and coaches?
A: Managers and coaches are parents, like you. Every coach must pass a background check and take an online concussion awareness course. Training and practice plans are provided, so no prior coaching experience is required. If you're interested but unsure about coaching, you can still get involved as a Team Parent.
Q: What is the goal of Single A?
A: The goal is to foster a love for the game so that players want to return next season. At this level, the focus is on having fun, learning, and developing skills. There are no scores, and no one is benched.
Q: How else can I help the league?
A: The league relies on volunteers. We always need more help to keep things running smoothly. If you're able, consider sharing your professional skills or pitching in to help maintain our facilities.
