OVERVIEW
For players aged 10-12*, the Majors division is similar to AAA but features players with more advanced skills. Each Majors team participates in the post-season VLL Tournament and the Vista City Tournament. Winning either tournament qualifies the team for the District 70 Tournament of Champions, and players in the Majors are also eligible for All-Star selection.
*Note: All 11- and 12-year-olds registering for Majors can be drafted by an Intermediate (50/70) team. Any 10- or 11-year-olds not selected in the Intermediate or Majors drafts will be added to the AAA draft pool.
Q: What equipment do I need to provide for my Majors player?
A: The league will provide team hats and jerseys. Players must have:
Bat (see USA bat requirement info below)
Fielding glove
Batting helmet
Cleats
Baseball pants, belts, socks (once your team has its color scheme, you can purchase pants, socks, and a belt accordingly)
Protective cup (boys only)
Q: When do Spring practices start?
A: Practices for Majors are scheduled to begin the first week of February.
Q: When do Spring games start?
A: We tentatively plan to have the first games in the first weekend of March, with the regular season ending around mid-May. The regular season will be followed by our annual Majors tournament to determine the division winner and the City of Vista Tournament. Both winners of those tournaments will represent VLL at the District 70 Tournament of Champions (TOC). If your team makes it to TOC, your season will conclude around the first or second week of June.
Q: Can I make a “buddy” or coach request?
A: No. Mandatory player assessments and a draft process are used in Majors to ensure parity among teams and appropriate competitive levels.
[During the fall, we do our best to honor coach and buddy requests.]
Q: What is a typical week for Majors?
A: There will be one 90-minute field practice and one 60-minute batting practice during the week, plus one weeknight game and one weekend game (Friday night or Saturday). Exact practice days will be determined by our practice scheduler. [One game per week during the fall.]
Q: What types of bats are allowed?
A: In Majors, all bats must be USA Baseball certified, indicated by the USA Baseball logo on the bat. Anything else is illegal for Little League play. A clerk at any sporting goods store can help you choose an appropriate bat.
Q: Are scores and standings kept?
A: Yes, scores and standings are kept and are used in determining the seeding for the end of the season tournament.
Q: Who are the managers and coaches?
A: All managers and coaches are parents of players in the league, and most have years of youth baseball coaching experience.
Q: What is the goal for Majors?
A: The ultimate goal at all Little League levels is for players to want to return the following season. In Majors, a key change from AAA is the implementation of the dropped third strike rule. Winning the league tournament or city tournament means representation in District 70's Tournament of Champions, and Majors players are eligible for post-season All-Star selection. Skill development and having fun remain top priorities.
Q: Besides managing, coaching, or being a team parent, how can I help the league?
A: Every board member, manager, coach, etc., is a volunteer donating their time. We welcome contributions of unique skills (professional and otherwise) to maintain our facilities and operations. The more help we receive from our community, the better we can support the environment we want for all our kids.
